WAM! (Women & Money) Workshops

Free Financial Education Classes

Do you avoid checking your bank account because of financial anxiety? Do you leave mail from creditors unopened because you can’t cope with their demands? Or do you just want some basic financial know-how? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then WAM! courses are for you. Two nights of free financial education workshops will be offered on January 16 and 17 at Northwest Florida State College. The class meets from 6pm to 8pm both nights in the Student Services Building on the Niceville campus. Topics covered at the workshops will include basic checking and savings, the importance of credit, how to pay yourself first, how to deal with creditors, types of loans, taxes and tax credit, identity theft, budgeting on a low income and retirement planning. These free workshops are hosted by Shelter House, the domestic violence center serving Okaloosa and Walton counties, and made possible through a grant from The Allstate Foundation. Shelter House offers free workshops throughout the year as part of its WAM! (Women and Money) program aimed at educating people to achieve economic empowerment through financial education and independence. Men are also welcome to attend the workshops. For more information on upcoming workshops or to register for this free financial education workshop, call Shelter House at 850-243-1201.
