Treat Yo' Self

05/12/2017 04:54PM ● Published by Nancy Babin

Let’s face it, most of the time, we don’t get quite what we’re wishing for on Mother’s Day. Don’t get me wrong - the card with the fingerprint butterfly and hand scrawled “I love you” is precious and will be cherished. However, what we really desperately want is some peace and quiet and a chance to just breathe for a minute. So, this Mother’s Day, instead of hoping there’s a gift card for a massage or a pedicure in that envelope, let’s just take care of it ourselves, shall we? I mean, we do everything else, so why not this, too? Here’s a couple of ways to make you feel appreciated. Self-care is important!

Go get that massage.
Want to take it up a notch? Find a masseuse that offers massage with essential oils. With blends like Stress Away and Peace & Calming, even the most high strung of us can get a little reprieve! (P.S. Massage Envy has a killer upgrade deal until May 14th!)

Mani/Pedi.
If you still want that massage but want to get something accomplished at the same time, a mani/pedi is where it’s at. Those chairs are like heaven. Plus, you’ll walk away feeling pretty with your newly polished nails.

Get your hair done. When was the last time that you touched up those roots or tried something new? Don’t go get a box from Ulta, let the professionals take care of you (from personal experience, the girls at Pure & Couture will nail it EVERY TIME). All of the girls are amazing, but I'm most at home with Dani. The girl has mad skills with color (as shown below). Sit back and relax while they do their magic. While you’re at it, let them shape those eyebrows for you.

Want to try something new? Go try out a local Float Spa. If you haven’t heard of this, you have to go try it. You get into a pod filled with water and tons of Epsom salts and just FLOAT for however long your session is. The cool part is that these Epsom salts help detox your body, so not only do you get to just relax for a little bit, but you also get some additional health benefits out of the experience.

Take a shopping day. With all the outlets and outdoor malls we have in Destin, there’s plenty of space to wander wherever you please and treat yourself to something that you wouldn’t normally purchase. A new purse or a new dress is just what the doctor ordered to give you a boost (and a pat on the back for being such an awesome mom)!

If it’s peace and quiet you’re looking for, try doing some yoga. The focus on stretching and breathing is restorative in nature. There’s always a local option for a class, but if you’re short on cash or don’t want to be embarrassed because you can’t reach your toes, lock yourself in your bedroom and pull up YouTube. There are some fantastic yoga instructors that do full courses all online.

Speaking of locking yourself in your bedroom, take some time to catch up on a series that you’ve fallen behind on or get addicted to something new. With the plethora of streaming apps available, all you need is a smart phone and you have yourself a private theater for whatever shows or movies delight you.

Give another momma some love. Try one of those things that your friends are always trying to sell you. You know what I’m talking about. Lipsense (which is a God-send, ladies), Agnes & Dora (hello, comfy clothes that still make you look put together), ThirtyOne (am I the only one obsessed with organization the second I see the options they provide?), Essential Oils (because Peace & Calming comes in a bottle). I know it’s easy to get frustrated by all the online invites on Facebook and the constant parties going on, but you know how much someone has to hustle to make direct sales and network marketing work. So, support your friend and try something new. Win-win for everyone!

At the end of the day, whatever we are given is special. Sometimes, we just need to give ourselves a little something, too.
