Lucy Buffett’s LuLu’s Destin opened in June with just as much fun and flavor as their Gulf Shores location.  Set on the Choctawhatchee Bay at the base of Mid-Bay Bridge next to Legendary Marine, the restaurant features the same waterfront views, sandy beach play area and fresh, local seafood that made LuLu’s famous in Gulf Shores almost 10 years ago.

“We want to spread the gumbo cuisine,” said Gabrille Barnett, marketing for LuLu’s. “Our goal is to keep the same feel as the location in Gulf Shores by building it near a bridge on the water and keeping the outdoor sandy play area.”

The restaurant is known for a relaxed vibe, perfect for local families and visitors. A sandy beach called the Fountain of Youth surrounds the back porch and is equipped with sand dunes, buckets and shovels for kids of all ages.  This area also includes face painting, hair wrap stands, and a play area called the Mountain of Youth, a three-story ropes climbing zone.

While the kids play, mom and dad can have a cocktail at the funky “crazy sista bay bar” that serves the same signature drinks from the Gulf Shores location. Live music is offered every night at LuLu’s to keep guests entertained on the back deck and inside the restaurant.

The eatery seats 350-400 people and is set away from the hustling and bustling attractions on the Gulf. This allows for more ample parking, complete with a shuttle called the “gumbo train,” to transport visitors from the parking lot to the restaurant entrance.

LuLu’s wants to make sure that every guest is taken care of. Barnett says that LuLu’s has created a special menu for food allergies, which is even prepared in a separate kitchen than other food on the menu. This includes soy, dairy, shellfish, gluten and nut allergies. Barnett says that many times vacationers worry about their allergy needs being met and that LuLu’s is happy to cater to those needs.

Cool factors: Newest restaurant on the coast bringing already famous flavors to the Destin area, and keeping with the laid-back, family feel that fans know so well
