Gooaaallll!! No matter what you call it soccer, futbol, or football, the Panama City Pirates play the beautiful game with heart and energy! The Pirates are part of the United Soccer League (USL) Southeast Division within the 73 teams that make up the Premier Development League (PDL) throughout the United States, Canada, and Bermuda.
PDL is a training ground for the best players in the country including NCAA and NAIA college players as well as foreign players. These players sharpen their skills during the summer in the hopes of playing the next level of soccer on a USL Pro or Major League Soccer team. You’ll see local players like Michael “Mikey” Lightborne, other players from all over the U.S., as well as players from Brazil, England, and France. The team is coached by local favorite Greg DeVito. DeVito, who also played eight seasons in the PDL and USL Professional Division, lends his expertise to the Pirates, FC Dallas-Emerald Coast as their Director of Coaching, and as a Florida Olympic Development Program coach. Having played collegiately and professionally, DeVito brings his talents, knowledge, and charisma to the team.
The biggest fan favorite is the Pirates’ official mascot, Captain Jack. He can be found at home games leading the opening game ceremonies, roaming the sideline taking pictures with fans, and cheering on his treasured team! All home games are played at Mike Gavlak Stadium at Arnold High School in Panama City Beach. The Panama City Beach Pirates want record breaking fans during the 2014 season so all tickets for ages 5 and up are $5.00 for all games and season tickets are available for $30.00. Bring your family, vuvuzelas (stadium horns), and noise-makers and we’ll see you on the Panama City Beach Pirates’ pitch!
