Celebrating its 18th season, the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation (MKAF) will host the Annual Concerts in the Village (formerly Concerts in the Park) every Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m., during May and June, followed by a concert finale on Wednesday, July 3rd.
Voted as one of the top ten things to do in Northwest Florida by Florida Travel & Tourism Guide, the 18th Annual Concerts in the Village will be held at the Mattie Kelly Cultural Arts Village in the heart of Destin and enjoy use of a new permanent stage, the Dugas Pavilion, and expanded Village Green. Nestled among nearly 45 acres of pristine forest and wetlands, the newly-developed concert venue rests on 6.76 acres of green space, and includes a 18-20 unit bathroom facility as well as on-site parking.
The 10-week outdoor concert series is fun for all ages and kicks off on May 2 with the Fountain City Players, featuring Motown, R&B, hip hop and jazz. With a mix of local musicians and bands as well as regional touring artists performing genres of music suitable for all ages, the 2013 concert schedule is as follows: May 2, the Fountain City Players (Motown, R&B, Pop, Jazz); May 9, the Michael Stacey Band (Modern Country); May 16, Ron Adams “Reflections”, a historical journey of American music; May 23, China Grove, a Tribute Band to the Doobie Brothers; May 30, Déjà Vu (Classic/Modern Rock, 70’s to 90’s Dance Music); June 6, The Mike Veal Band (Stump the Band from over 200 top artists); June 13, The Craig Woolard Band (Carolina Beach Music); June 20, Heritage (Hawaiian, Pop & Reggae); June 27, Alter Eagles, A Tribute Band to The Eagles and on July 3, David Seering taking to the stage to perform An American Patriotic Tribute.
Concert goers are encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chair and a picnic or purchase dinner prepared fresh on-site by either Carrabba's Italian Grill or Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q, which rotate weekly. Bottled water and soft drinks are available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the MKAF's cultural and education mission. Admission is $8 per adult or $15 per couple and children under 12 and MKAF members are free. Attendees may park at the Grace Lutheran Church and on-site, once the grass parking lot is completed.
